Hot by clicks: the second opinion

Hailee Steinfeld, trending on our hot by clicks list

Our main lists ask the editors: who is hot? This list asks the crowd: who is everyone clicking on right now?

The number. Every night we read how often each person's English Wikipedia article was opened over the last seven days (Wikimedia's public Pageviews service) and take the daily average. Selma Blair, Nathan Fielder and Mike Tyson each had tens of thousands of visits a day this week. The figure is printed next to every name.

What it means. Clicks jump when someone is in the news: a premiere, a new series, a viral moment. They measure attention, not looks. That is why this list is a subcategory: Hot by clicks sits beside the hot lists, never above them.

Why we like it. It is a check on our own taste. When someone climbs fast and is on no editorial list, we want to know why. And it is the only list where a teenager's favourite singer and a grandmother's favourite actor compete on the same scale.
