Why a car or a place can be hot

Tesla Roadster, number one on our hottest cars list

Hot is not only about people. A well-drawn line on a sports car or the colour of the water in a bay does exactly what a face does: you stop and look.

Cars. We picked 30 supercars, sports cars and electric hypercars, from the Porsche 911 to the Rimac Nevera, and ranked them by how many people looked them up this week. The Tesla Roadster, a car that is still to arrive, led the list the day we wrote this. That is the point of counting: hot is often a car you cannot buy yet.

Places. The same for 30 islands, coasts and cities, from Santorini to Tokyo. Monaco and Tokyo sit near the top on page views alone; the Maldives and the Seychelles follow.

The editorial part. The shortlist is ours, and it is open. The ranking inside it is pure numbers from Wikimedia. No sponsor can buy a position.

What is next. More lists are possible: watches, restaurants, hotels, festivals. If you want one for your own brand, the advertise page shows how a custom subdomain works.
